At Westgate we hold assemblies that support the Leader In Me. It empowers other students to support the seven habits. The lighthouse team (the team who supports and reinforces the habits around the school) held this assembly showing all of the habits. This assembly was not just one quick rehearse and were done, the lighthouse team spent many weeks practicing. This was so busy each group of students working on a separate habit. Some habits put on skits such as the synergize, begin with the end in mind, and seek first to understand then to be understood. With everyone busy and working hard, the end result was amazing and a true benefit and accomplishment to all the hard work. With an amazing assembly that turned out perfect and a mini dance party to the can't stop feeling song to make the end happy and a true accomplishment. Working hard had a true happy ending. I really think that was the best assembly we ever had!! I think that that assembly took a long time to plan.
Have you heard about the Westgate W.I.G? W.I.G stands for wildly important goal. Westgate as a whole school makes a goal, and this year Westgate is going to do a math goal. Westgate uses a W.I.G (wildly important goal) to improve our school. The W.I.G is also part of are Leader in Me program. Westgate has a theme of the year, and with the theme being Star Wars this year we tie it into are W.I.G, to become a Math Jedi! Every Grade is using this W.I.G to improve our math skills. With the new curriculum Math In Focus we set a goal to make us better math students with a change in using our new curriculum. In our class we are always working hard and practicing. The 2nd grade however, are learning division and adding!!! In the third grade hallway, we have a W.I.G. board and we take track of how we are doing in math.We third graders are leaning bar graphing, and times facts. If us third graders, get 80% or higher, then we will become math jedi! Half of the school ARE math jedi. Our Principal, Dr. Carter, helped set this up. Westgate School is a great leader and me school. These are the W.I.G. Math boards where the teachers post how their students are doing. Look at how many classes of Math Jedi we have! You can find our whole school W.I.G. board in the Commons. It will eventually have the percentages for how all of our students are doing in Math. Is your classroom using the 7 Habits? Then share it with Mrs. Mazzola -- [email protected] Our second Assembly this year was a great one. A ton of classes shared their amazing Class Mission Statements. All of them were fun and inspirational to keep the class using habits and different ways that their class follows their mission. In my class (Mrs.Kuehl/ Ms.Carey) our mission statement was: As unique and fantastic KC leaders, we will respect others & have fun learning through new experiences. We will listen to each other and learn from our mistakes. We will be kind, hard-working and positive team members. We will use the habits to be the best we can be create positive futures. Here is another mission statement from Richney ½ multi age class: We are the Richney Multiage leaders. We can follow the 7 Habits. We can make others feel the way we want to feel. We will be happy. We will have full buckets every day. We will meet our goals. We will have fun! We have such great leaders here at Westgate School!!! Is your classroom using the 7 Habits? Then send it to Mrs. Mazzola -- [email protected] We met our W.I.G goal and earned a Lip Sync battle between Dr. Carter and Mr. Walton. Our goal was to be quiet during clean up at lunch. Data collectors use an app on the iPad to count the shatters. When the noise level gets too loud, the app shatters. The all school goal was an average of 22 shatters. Mr. walton sang first, he sang the song "Let it Go" from the movie Frozen. Dr. Carter sang Let it Go and I’m a Single Lady. It was hilarious. Everyone was cheering for both of our Leaders! We are working to do it again so we can have more Lip Sync battles between other teachers.
